mission trip 2026

kansas-farmland

Parsons, Kansas - July 5-11

Open to the entire congregation!

Location:

Parsons, Kansas, is approximately 5.5 from Frisco, by car.  The town was founded in 1870 as the headquarters of the Kansas-Missouri-Texas Railroad—known as the “Katy Railroad”—and later became home to a major ammunition plant that supplied the U.S. military during and after World War II. But when the railroad was sold in the late 1980s, the town lost not only jobs but also a vital part of its identity. In 2005, the military attempted to close the ammunition plant; although it still operates today, its capacity remains limited.

These economic setbacks have had a lasting impact—nearly 15% of the population now lives below the poverty line. Many residents, particularly seniors and low-income families, are left with homes in disrepair and limited resources to repair them. By bringing your youth group to Parsons, you’ll step into a place with deep history and real needs, offering hands-on help through meaningful home repairs that bring hope, safety, and restoration to a resilient community.

Lodging:

This longtime partner facility is fully air-conditioned, with program space held in the gym. Guys will use group showers, while the girls’ area offers a mix of private and group-style showers.

How You’ll Serve:

Your group will be mixed with other groups and will help revitalize aging homes through interior and exterior painting, light carpentry, and building porches and wheelchair ramps. All projects are thoughtfully planned to be age-appropriate for students and adults.
