05.09.25 Backyard Animals

Ranger, our dog, has a new enemy. For the last couple of days, a turtle will appear and slowly making his way past our little patio backyard. Once, while Ranger growled and the turtle walked by, it was joined by a cardinal sitting on our little fence, a squirrel digging in the ground below, and a sparrow pecking at the ground in the squirrel’s tracks. All were unbothered by Ranger’s growls.

I would love to be so peaceful, to not be bothered by loud things that cannot actually reach me. More often, unnecessary stress can get to me. However, looking for God’s peace in the world is a helpful way to remember the peace God offers. The peaceful backyard scene helped me remember Christ’s good and challenging words, “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?… So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matt 6:26, 34 NRSVUE)

See you Sunday,
