07.11.2025 – A.I. Part 3 (The Upside)

The Upside

Despite my concerns about the development and deployment of A.I., I think there is probably an upside. If God can redeem evil and bring good out of it, then A.I., which is only a tool and not evil, can surely be used for good.

Here is one use case I found persuasive. My mother is an organizational ombudsman, a dispute resolution specialist. Her work involves lots of confidential information. However, A.I. can synthesize that confidential information (provided the information is not used for LLM training) so she can learn about and report on trends and patterns without violating confidentiality. Maybe more importantly, she can ask A.I. to check her work for bias. Given the confidential nature of her work, she could not go to another human. In this case, A.I. is being used as ethically as possible to maintain confidentiality and improve the lives of people dealing with conflict.

I am sure other people who use A.I. are finding other good ways to use it as a tool to help others. My concern is A.I. is a powerful tool we are not using, or prepared to use well, but I believe there must be an upside to using the tool well. The task for us is to realize A.I. might be pretty good hammer, but not everything is a nail.

Blessings,

Pastor Luke
