08.30.25 – Focus Friend

A couple weeks ago, a new app called “Focus Friend” came out. The app is very simple. An anthropomorphized bean sits in a room. The bean likes to knit. You set a timer, and the bean knits. During that time, you cannot use your phone, or the bean will drop its needles and look sad. If you make it to the end of the timer, the bean will excitedly give you digital socks you can trade in to decorate the bean’s room.

I’m a fan. It’s a simple tool to reclaim our attention and I think attention has tremendous spiritual value. What is prayer if not trying to give God our full attention? It’s also a fun productivity tool. I excitedly asked Obrei if she had heard of it. We told another of our friends, who got into it as well, and I imagine she has told other people. We weren’t the only ones sharing. The app become the top app in the store, above even ChatGPT.

We shared the app naturally and easily because we found something fun and good that brought us joy. It got me thinking. How do we create a church so good that we are joyfully inspired to do the same with the Good News Jesus shares with us?

Blessings,

Pastor Luke
