I like grilled cheese. It’s so simple and good, just a few elements to make something delicious. Cheese, butter, bread. Maybe a couple of other things tossed in or substituted. It’s also easy to mess up. Story for another day, or ask me on Sunday. Even if it’s simple, it still takes attention to make perfectly.
A couple weeks ago, Obrei asked if I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. She’s been on a grilled cheese kick and thought it’d be nice to share. I’m not sure the last time I had one. It was delicious. One trick was sneaking some Toni’s in, always a good call. She gave her attention to doing all the little things that make the perfect grilled cheese.
Our attention has tremendous value. Companies spend millions (billions?) to capture it. God calls us to direct our attention to God so we do not make idols. What is prayer if not striving to give God our attention. When our attention is on God and God’s desires, we can focus on loving the world with the love of God. Even if it’s just by making a really good grilled cheese.
